Ledge

Thank you to Netgalley for kindly providing this Arc

With this being Stacey's debut novel, Ledge has so much promise to be an amazing series! In Ledge, we follow Dawsyn, our heroine, who is stuck in a village on the ledge of a mountain where once a month winged creatures come to offer rations in exchange for a human "sacrifices" that are never seen again. And this time our heroine is picked, and from that moment on, we follow an action-filled, slow-burn story full of revenge plots, political schemes, and, of course, an enemy-to-lover romance.

For me, the beginning was a little slow and hard to get into, I struggled to get my head around the worldbuilding, but once the pace picked up, I really did get stuck into the book. I was able to connect well with the characters and understand the world a lot more. However, I really do wish that the pace at the start was faster, or at least hocked me into the story a bit better than what it did, as I felt that with the fast-paced ending, it felt very rushed and that paced could have been easily spread throughout the whole book. With all that said, I did really enjoy Ledge; this dystopian fantasy romance really did capture my heart, and I can not wait for book two! I have so many questions that I need answers for now!

Thank you to Netgalley for kindly providing this Arc

This was a such a beautiful read, This Norse Mythology retelling told in Angrboda's POV (Loki's giantess wife) and their infamous children captured my heart in a way i did not expect it too. This book will give you all the feeling and I have not stopped thinking about it since i finished it, leading me to dive into some research.

There is nothing but one or two mentions of Angrboda in Norse Mythology and Genevieve Gornichec - while yes this is fiction - brought her to life while blending in and sticking to Norse mythology stories. I am definitely not an expert in this subject however I do love Norse Mythology and very aware of Ragnarok, Loki's children and the gods mentioned.

Yes, The Witch's Heart has a slow start but once you get into this story you will not be able to put it down, I loved that there were no chapters just parts, the pacing was great as I was able to get through it in one sitting. The relationships felt modern which I was not expecting but I enjoy a bantery romance that Loki & Angrboda had, I honestly could not stop smiling while reading their interactions from the start. Honestly the relationships in general from them to the Angrboda's love for her children and for her friends are written so beautifully. This book will pull at your heart in a way you wont expect it to.

This book was gifted to me to be a part of RRbooktours

This book has been on my mind constantly since I finished it last night. I am still stunned and unsure of how to process what I've just read, but what I have processed is that The Stars Are Dying is Chloe's best book yet. I have loved and supported Chloe's books since An Heir Comes to Rise came out and I have been in love with her writing ever since. But The Stars are Dying is something else. It's so beautiful and captivating; it certainly keeps you on your toes and there are so many little quotes that are now just living in my mind rent-free now. TSAD is nothing short of a masterpiece.

"Think of me and I will answer. Long for me, and I’m right here with you."

In The Stars Are Dying, we follow our FMC Astraea, who is isolated and sheltered with only 5 years worth of memories. She struggles with who she can really trust with everyone around her having their own hidden motives that concern her. Astraea is a little out of touch with the world around her due to this, but when it comes to it, she can hold her own in most situations and hold her own against our morally grey MMC, Ntye. TSAD is a a long journey for her, one where she has a lot of experiences along the way from finding who she can trust, love, horrific losses, betrayals, heartbreaks to near-death experiences. all just to find out who she really is and why people treat her as they do, and all these experiences just make her so much stronger.

"The brightest star needs the darkest night."

The characters... damn these characters... I fell in love with a lot of them instantly, and it's all down to the character building, their interactions, and the banter. The sisterly love, the flirting, the back and forth, and the cute bickering

“There’s a whole world before you, Starlight.”

Nyte, sir, You can have my soul, and I mean it, just take it. Every time he just magically appeared, I'd be smiling. From the cute little nickname to the slow-burn romance, Nyte was such a fun character to read. You never knew where he stood, but you always knew he would keep Astraea safe no matter what... Even if he does have a ton of red flags, he certainly leaves an impression...Our beautiful star girl, Astraea, you can have a thousand hugs. Astraea is such a strong and fascinating MC, and with everything that happens to her in the first part of the book, it reminds me a lot of other strong FMC like Auren and Poppy, in the sense of what they went through to get to where they are. I cannot wait to see how much more her character grows in book 2 and to see more of her magic. Aside from the whole Nyte and Astraea relationship, I think seeing Astraea's character grow more is what I am most excited for.

TSAD is an amazing book and certainly a 5 star read. I laughed, I made little excited noises, I may have screamed a little, and I most certainly cried (thank you, Chole, for that, I now can't think of a certain 2 words without getting emotional), but I also have a lot of questions. I'm still stunned. The last 30% was all go go go, so many twists, so many surprises. There are so many details scattered throughout this book that come back so much later and also tie this book to her AHCTR series. I am so very excited for book 2.

"If we’re lost or apart, we’ll look up and know we’re mapping the same stars. And should death part us, we’ll know the other made it to the skies when the star that shines the brightest gives three blinks."

Overall this was not a bad read, I was able to finish it within one sitting and I did really enjoy it. The cover and synopsis really draw you in, giving you some high expectations of how the book is going to be. Endless Skies has a unique magic system and focuses a lot on details that really help bring the world to life.

This book is a fantastic standalone with strong female warrior leads and a love triangle that I wasn't too much invested in but it was okay. The 3 pov's could have easily been 2 as I feel like one was more an info dump that could have been just a fly on a wall in 3rd person this and the ending is what made this book more of a 3.5 than a 4 for me.

Spoiler warning:The ending really threw me as I felt that the death of one of the main pov's was unnecessary to the plot, it really did just feel like an info dump pov that wasn't needed anymore so was killed off. I really enjoyed this pov as its the one you start with at the beginning and really drew me into the story. This pov hinted at so much more that I would have loved of seen in this story.

Reread reviewWhen Fable was orginally announced I was beyond excited, i mean who wouldnt be excited for a pirate-esc book with a cover this gorgeous, my first read was an amzing experience and was just the same for my second read.

Fable is a book about a fierce young girl that was born into the pirate life, lost her mother to a shipreck and was abandoned on an island by her father where she had to fend for herself until she could get enough money from dredging to make her way off the island and back to him to get her inheritance.

The crew, the family, Fable and her fathers relationship, the unexpected romance and a parents love, deep sea diving at a shipwreck that changed Fables life, finding her new family and the pirate heist, everything in this book is so beautifully balanced and i loved everything second of it.I will forever be recommending this book.

It is so easy to get sucked into the current of this story and read this book in a day, maybe less than that. From the strong female lead to world building and everything pirate. This book is amazing. Adrienne young just has a way of making sure we are focused on the characters with simple but also beautiful world building.

" This was the only safe place in the city. This small space that we fit into. "
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I have been a huge fan of Adrienne's work since her debut book Sky In The Deep, The Fable/Namesake world that Adrienne created was so captivating and hearing that The last legacy would be set in that world I knew that I would love this book too. Since The Last Legacy is a standalone, you do not need to read Fable and Namesake first but it is something I would always recommend as there are many breadcrumbs and

In The Last Legacy we follow the story of Bryn Roth, who is after spending most of her life away returning to the city of the Untamed Sea to find her place in the Roth family. Bryn is quick to realise that what she believed to be her future from a young age is potentially not all that it seems to be.This story is a book about betrayals, family, destiny and retaking control of that destiny, following in what you believe in, including believing in a small forbidden romance that was so incredibly beautiful to follow as it bloomed throughout the book. Adrienne Young has a very strong ability to create a captive solid main character that you can not help but become attached too.Overall this standalone exceeded all the expectations I had for this book and i can not wait to see what Saint is going to be like

❝ That look on his face was as beautiful as it was cold, and I didn’t like that I’d had to force myself to tear my eyes from his. ❞

It's no secret that Adrienne Young is one of my favourite authors. I absolutely adored fable and namesake, so when I heard that we were going to get a story based on Saint, I was beyond excited.Saint is so beautifully written. There's just something about Adrienne's writing that just keeps you hooked and asking for more, more from every character and every story. And she gives you just that with Saint.

Saint tells the story of Fable's father, the man who was mysterious and cruel, but here jumping between Saint's and Isolde's pov, we see a whole different side of him. we see him fall in love with Isolde, fight for what is his, and build his reputation. And I honestly loved reading it all. Saint is a great addition to this series. There are so many good parts in Saint, but I will be honest when I say I got a very teary-eyed, goofy smile when Saint first meets Isolde. It was very bittersweet reading this and knowing what happensIf I had my way, I would really have loved to have seen further into his life what happened after his darkest moments. What choices did he make? Why does he do the things he did in Fable but I am also glad this is it's own story, it stands on it's own and it's not just retelling the orginal books, it's adding to it and if we are able to have more from the narrows in the future I am 100% down for that.If you have read Fable and Namesake, and even if you haven't, I highly recommend Saint to you all 💜

"There were tales that only the island knew. Ones that had never been told. I knew, because I was one of them."

This book will not only take your breath away, but will also keep you hooked to the point where you will sacrifice some sleep just to finish it.I read Spells in one sitting. I did want to savour it, but I just could not put it down. Adrienne Young has always had a way with words, she has a talent for detailing characters and world building.

Her writing is so captivating and different from a lot of authors I love. Adrienne's books have always drawn me in, and I have loved every single one of her books, with Spells for forgetting being her debut adult book, this book, it's something else entirely.Spells for forgetting is a whodunnit set on an eerie small island with an even smaller town that has an incredibly tight knit community. The atmosphere that the writing creates for this book is intense; you never want it to end, but you also want who committed the murder that has this town on edge. There are so, so many twists, things that will defiantly keep you gripped and an ending that will have you begging for a second book even though this is a standalone.I will be recommending this book to the high heavens to anyone that wants to read it, especially during the spooky season because Spells for forgetting is the perfect fall/Halloween cosy read.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

From seeing the stunning cover for the first time to reading the description, I was hyped for this book and I knew it would make me sob, I wanted to fall in love with this book.Dustin Thao's debut takes us through Julie grieving the loss of her boyfriend Sam. Everyone grieves differently, You've reached Sam is not the typical response you expect from a grieving teenager.

Julie goes from throwing Sam's things out, deleting everyone and being distant from everyone, not attending the funeral/wakes to just wanting to hear his voice once more except she gets that second chance to say goodbye to him when he answers the phone and its not just once, its months of being able to talk to him. This book is purely an emotional based story. There is no real plot to this book, while a few parts of the story fell flat for me or didn't seem to be in character and was off putting however "You've reached Sam" is an engaging book because you are reading through Julie character growth as she goes through this process, that is what makes this a strong book.---The prologue had me in tears, the last 3 chapters had me so teary I had to go back and reread them. I have not experienced a loss like this but I can resonate Dustin Thao's writing and with Sam, the not wanting to be forgotten or leaving a mark on the world when you pass, I think this story does a great job of putting across (while making you very teary) that you do leave a mark on the ones you leave behind and they wont forget you.

"May you always have star to wish on,
Abriella,
and a reason to believe"

Thank you to Netgalley and Hodder and Sloughton for providing me this E-Arc.

I loved this story! At first, it was not easy to get into as it was a slow start (an intriguing start, but slow) 30% of the way in, I was most certainly hooked. I then finished it within the day. Just wow, I have gone back and reread the last two chapters so many times because the twist at the end was stunning. I honestly can say that I am dying to read more from this world and can not wait for the second book to see where this goes.

These Hollow Vows is a single POV where you learn of the human world along with the two courts in the fae realm, Seelie and Unseelie, as Abriella develops and learns more about her magic and history in this story. Along with several foreshadowing moments that were not obvious to me while reading, I had many suspicions and theories that made me keep reading, letting some of the twists surprise me. Without a doubt, this is a fast-paced and easy to read story.

Going into These Hollow Vows, we join Jas and Abriella in a very Cinderella world setting with an evil stepmother and evil sisters living poorly in the basement. With this Cinderella setting as you read, you will find other influences from a few fairy tales that fit so well into this fae world that Lexi Ryan created. We also meet many magical creatures (Goblins that love hair & pixies) as well as two fae princes, Sebastian/Ronan and Finn. You will also meet Finn's gang or group of misfits that I would call the crows if I could as they did have that feel to them. Abriella gets stuck in between Ronan and Finn as she is on her mission to save her sister. One could call this a love triangle however I felt it was more of a tug of war that I had hoped Finn would win ( I still hope he will in the next book), I do hope that in the second book that we get to explore Finn’s character more or get even multi pov’s?.

Overall I did end up loving this book from the plot, the characters to the worldbuilding and the Faerie lore creatures, These Hollow Vows is a book I will be recommending to every Fae lover I know, however, while it is marketed for YA I do believe it is borderline New Adult.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I dropped absolutely everything when this e-arc landed on my Netgalley shelf after receiving the e-arc for these hollow vows and falling in love it, I was beyond excited to read These Twisted bonds and you know what, it did not disappoint me at all and I want to reread it right now.

These Twisted Bonds picks up straight from where These Hollow Vows ended, we continue to follow Brie and her story, her growth and how she grows into this power all while trying to help save the realms, the children that are dying because of the actions at the end of These Hollow Vows. Brie's character development was so interesting to follow. I found some elements within this story to be predictable, which is typical for most YA books i have read but I honestly did not care, I was so invested in this book and I was loving every second of it.

I wish that ending was longer, and that is probably its only downfall. the ending was rushed, it could have very easily have been stretched a few more chapters but we really need a small novella of the ending couple or maybe a Misha spin off.I loved this book, it was everything I wanted to be. I will be screaming this recommendation from the roof tops to everyone that will listen.

Thank you to Bloomsbury for providing me with an Arc of this book via Netgalley.

"How we fall apart" is a Young adult thriller based in a high end prestigious school, with a murder mystery, many secrets and not normally my type of book, however, I could not put this book down and read it within 3 hours.

You really do get pulled into this story to figure out why events have happened the way they are and the secrets of the 4 students involved. This story is told in a single pov of Nancy and while I think multiple pov's would have helped with the flow of this book, I do think it would have ruined the way we read the story. "How we fell apart" really turned into a little mystery game for me, I was really suspicious of everyone and at one point was convinced I knew who it was (shock, horror I was so wrong). I surprisingly enjoyed reading How we feel apart, it touches on a lot of important topics, so many plot twists that really kept me hooked. I still haven't figured out who Anon is yet though but I really hope there is a book 2, I am very curious as to what the golden trio did.I will defiantly be grabbing a physical copy when I can, if you are looking for something a little different from your normal reads, something that fits in the realm of Pretty little liars, Gossip Girl and a quick read I highly recommend this book for you.

Wow, Okay, Is it possible to hug fictional characters? Because they all need one."Someone once told me that we should be riding at the front, not hiding in the shadows."

This Robin Hood, inspired fantasy captured my heart very easily and very quickly. Completely blowing me away from the characters, the plot, the interactions, the details, to the world-building, Defy the Night may not contain any magic but is most certainly a magical read.

"You make me want to do better."

I fell in love with Tessa/Wes along with Corrick, his friend Quint and his brother Harrison. Each character had their personal growths throughout Defy the Night, the banter between them all, especially
Tessa/wes/Corrick had me smiling for the majority of the read. I had seriously thought I had the early on plot twist figured out, but for the writing to somehow make me change my mind only for it to happen in the very next chapter,

Which is a testament to how beautifully Brigid Kemmerer wrote this book. Not only do you get hooked very fast and you also experience a lot of emotions throughout the read. YA gems like Defy the Night within the current YA climate makes this story a breath of fresh air that I would happily reread over and over.Defy the Night was such an unexpectedly great read and I can not wait to get my hands on the next book. I really do hope it is soon!

Talking of characters, I immediately fell in love with Violet.... and Xanden.... Violet is definitely flawed in so many ways, but damn is she determined and a badass. It is certainly not easy being target number one for being the general's daughter, but it is certainly not easy trying to be something you never wanted to be because you have no choice in the matter, but our Violence pushed through and proved so many people wrong, including herself. The character development is beautiful.

Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin Teen for providing me with an e-arc

Iron Widow is something else, literally something else. The reading experience I had with this book was amazing. The world building, the characters had me hooked for the start and the way that Zhao blended Chinese history and mythology with so many futuristic elements is insane!

There is no doubt that Iron widow is very much an action packed feminist sci-fi dystopian where Zhao points out many of the horrors about the world and how it changes the people who live in it. Zhao pushes the fact that ‘heroes’ aren’t all perfect, or pure and noble. They are also fighting for justice and aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty, they want the best for their lives and those around them as much as any "clean" hero would, they want justice, vengeance and nothing will stop them.

I really did enjoy this book a lot, it has so much potential and I can not wait for the sequel so we can see where things go.

Fourth Wing

Holy sh*t this book... just O m g.

-★-
These days, I don't really read a book in one sitting or stay up until 2 a.m. to read said book when I have work at 7 a.m. the next day. Fourth Wing is, without any arguments, my favourite read of 2023, and it's only May.

Rebecca Yarros has somehow brought together different but familiar fantasy elements, all of which you can certainly feel or pick up on while reading this, and has just thrown onto the table this fresh and different story or world that has made me fall in love with fantasy all over again. There is beauty in how this book is written. I feel that if Rebecca started going into vast detail about everything, we'd end up in Samantha Shannon territory, which is not a bad thing at all, but there is a beauty in how character-driven this book is.

“Let me guess, you could smell my perfume. Isn’t that what always gives the heroine away in books?”

Xaden, sweet rebel boy Xaden. I was rooting for them to be together from the time Violet was told to stay away from him. Xanden is just something else. If you sit there and compare how Dain and Xanden were around Violet, you can really see that Xanden, while yes, he is a rebel and wants revenge, also really does care what Violet thinks. He doesn't push her into a box or force her to make decisions; he just really wants to protect someone he so desperately cares for without making them do things they don't want to or by holding them back. The slow-burn romance was everything.

"A dragon without its rider is a tragedy.".... "A rider without their dragon is dead."

The dragons. The bloody freaking beautiful dragons—apart from the forbidden romance, the dragons are the best part of this book. The minute that Tairn and Andarna appeared on the page, I was giggling. We love sassy, badass, but caring dragons. This book, hands down, is a book that has high potential to drag you out of your reading slump and make you fall in love with reading all over again.November can't get here soon enough; I need book 2.

Spoilers for the last few chapters?

The amount of twists in the last few chapters made me want to scream; I definitely shed a tear or two, but I just could not put this down. I really could not, and that last chapter, jeeez, that POV switch, Rebecca Yarros, you caught me so off guard with that, and I loved it, because while you could have just left it to fade to black on Violet's POV, you gave us this whole new perspective on not only Violet's healing but also what Xaden, the dragons, and their friends were going through, and THAT ENDING, that freaking ending, had me staring at my kindle, rereading the last few lines over and over for ages.
